Thinh T. Doan joined us as an assistant professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics in August of 2024. Before joining UT’s Cockrell School of Engineering, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Virginia Tech (VT). Doan received his bachelor’s degree in ECE at Hanoi University of Science and Technology in Vietnam in 2008. He then obtained his master's degree at the University of Oklahoma in 2013 and his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2018, both in ECE.
At Illinois, Doan was the recipient of the Harriett and Robert Perry Fellowship Award in, 2016 and 2017 respectively. Before joining VT, he was a TRIAD postdoctoral fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Doan’s research interests span on the broad topics of real-time decision making for autonomy. His group focuses on advancing existing control and learning algorithms that enable a team of robots, such as UAVs or ground vehicles, to help humans perform complex tasks. His research has been supported by NSF (through the CAREER award and CIF program) and AFOSR (through Young Investigator Program award).
