Thomas (Tommy) Power is a Principal with Stress Engineering Services, a professional engineering consulting firm headquartered in Houston, Texas.
Power holds a Ph.D. in engineering mechanics from The University of Texas at Austin and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Caltech. He graduated with High Honors with a BS degree in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas.
As an undergraduate at UT Austin, Power was a proud member of the Longhorn Band and was fortunate to march in Ronald Regan’s first inaugural parade. While working on his Ph.D. at UT Austin, Power received the Texas Engineering Foundation Award for Exemplary Teaching by a Graduate Student instructor. More recently, Power was honored as an inaugural inductee of the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics Academy of Distinguished Alumni.
Power has been with Stress Engineering Services since completing his Ph.D. in 1995, and has been developing business with private space companies since 2019, after spending most of his career performing design and analysis of production risers deployed from floating oil and gas platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and the South China Sea.
Power lives with his son, Charlie, in Tomball, TX, and enjoys woodworking, camping, birdwatching, and looking up into a star-filled sky.
